GXUMA

GXUMA is a celebration of movement, culture, and play. Created as a series of custom-designed basketballs for Miami Art Week and Art Basel Miami Beach, the project transforms a familiar sporting object into a vibrant canvas for artistic expression.

Inspired by the colors, textures, patterns, and rhythms of Africa, GXUMA embodies pure energy in motion. Each basketball is infused with bold visual storytelling, drawing from cultural motifs and contemporary design to create an object that is both functional and artistic. Every bounce sparks movement, every pattern carries meaning, and every leap creates a connection between the player and the ground beneath their feet.

Exhibited at the Southeast Financial Center in Downtown Miami, the collection formed part of the city's internationally renowned Art Basel programming, where art, design, culture, and community converge. The installation was curated by Coveted Co, and attracted a diverse audience of collectors, creatives, and sports enthusiasts, including former Miami Heat NBA champion Joel Anthony, underscoring the universal appeal of basketball as both a sport and a cultural platform.

Vibrant, expressive, and alive with movement, GXUMA is more than a basketball—it is a rhythm that can be seen, felt, and experienced. Through the fusion of African-inspired design, contemporary art, and athletic culture, the work celebrates joy, identity, and the power of play to connect people across backgrounds, generations, and geographies.
